Mr. Keays graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Upon graduation In 1992 Peter joined a telecommunications manufacturing company in a role providing technical support for circuit board and mechanical assembly operations. Over the next decade, he took on diverse supporting roles specializing in small tool design, automated soldering, process planning/ improvement, and new product introduction. He later became a project manager with an innovative local firm designing and manufacturing environmental remediation systems. He has also worked with an engineering consultancy servicing a multinational consumer products industrial facility.

As a volunteer for many years with Professional Engineers Ontario, he helped to coordinate outreach activities to promote the engineering profession in the community.

In 2011 Peter joined D.D.D.G. Engineering Services as an associate Mechanical Engineer and he has participated in HVAC energy modeling, building services design, building condition auditing, estimating, construction administration and commissioning oversight.


Plant Process Implementation

Peter proposed and supported the design and implementation of a parallel colloid mill installation to allow process testing with minimal disruption to plant operations. He managed interactions of staff, trades and contractors, and filed piping changes with TSSA.

Building Condition Audit

Coordinated the review of a large industrial building to assess renovations for new tenancy using specialists subcontracted by DDDG and outside contractors, to review grounds (lot, landscape, spills), interior /exterior envelope (roof, masonry, windows, doors, floors), building systems (electrical, mechanical, life safety).

System Design and Project Management

As a designer and project manager, Peter worked closely with experienced trades to build self-contained air and water-treatment brownfield remediation systems for a variety of clients in Canada, U.S.A, and beyond.

Project Coordination

Peter acted as the main point of contact for a client during the planning and implementation of dust-collection system upgrade, coordinating deliverables of suppliers, contract engineers, and in-house staff.

Process Improvement / Waste Reduction

Participated on a team to implement a VOC-free process across multiple departments in a facility of 1200 people. Conceived a returnable packaging program to divert from landfill over $100K of corrugate packaging per year. Worked with a dynamic team transferring product assembly lines from associated manufacturing facilities under strict time and budget constraints, helping to integrate new machines and processes.

Police Station Fit-up / Design and Administration

He participated in the layout design, estimating, tendering and administration of a building retrofit to convert an industrial facility into a municipal police station; a challenging multi-year project approaching $2M constructed cost, and involving all stakeholders: owners, contractors, suppliers, regulators and inspectors.

Commissioning Authority for Site Central Boiler Upgrade

Witnessed the installation and start-up of a central plant multi-boiler upgrade at a large provincial school complex. Implement the ASHRAE commissioning process as outlined in guide 0 and guide 1.1.
